Herd documentary to premiere
FARGO, N.D., August 31, 2006 Prairie Public Television will premiere
its newest local production, HERD ABOUT THE PRAIRIE: A VIRTUAL ARTS STAMPEDE,
Tuesday, September 5, at 8 p.m. (CT).
The film documents the popular Fargo-Moorhead Herd About the Prairie project
that has decorated the cities streets this summer.
Producer Hope Deutscher and the Prairie Public film crew followed the
Herd About the Prairie project from its inception, which began as a public
arts idea and grew to become a successful public arts event. Deutscher
and the crew traveled to Buffalo, Minnesota, to film the fiberglass bison
statues being created by Fiberstock, Inc, and then filmed and interviewed
each of the artists who transformed the fiberglass bison into works of
art.
Bob Dambach, director of television programming and production for Prairie
Public, said the non-profit broadcasting station was pleased to partner
with the Lake Agassiz Arts Council to create the documentary. Programs
produced about art projects similar to HERD ABOUT THE PRAIRIE have been
distributed nationally by the public broadcasting system, and one titled
Painted Ponies, produced by New Mexico Public Television,
aired on Prairie Public in 2005.
Im pleased that Prairie Public Television is able to participate
and document this community arts project, Dambach said. If
youve seen any of these works of arts in other cities you know what
a fun and visually interesting experience viewing these creations can
be.
HERD ABOUT THE PRAIRIE: A VIRTUAL ARTS STAMPEDE will rebroadcast September
9 at 5 p.m. and September 10 at 3:30 p.m. (CT). Copies of the DVD, which
include bonus footage not seen in the broadcast, will be available for
purchase at the Prairie Public studio and at the Roam at the Dome event
on Saturday, September 9.
Prairie Public Broadcasting is a non-profit television and radio network
that provides a wide range of education, technology and entertainment
services to communities, schools and individuals. Prairie Public Television
is broadcast across North Dakota and into neighboring states and southern
Manitoba.###
