Prairie Public premieres local documentary about North Dakotas
east-west roadway
FARGO, N.D., May 18, 2007Prairie Public Broadcastings newest
local television production traces the history of the road we now know
as Interstate 94. The Old Red Trail is a historical television
retrospective of North Dakotas primary east-west roadway. The documentary
will premiere Thursday, May 24, at 8 p.m. (CT).
The Old Red Trail follows the development of the road from
mud to highway to super highwaydocumenting its design and construction,
the changes and celebrations in communities along the roadway, and the
businesses that thrived or died when the road came through.
The documentary also reminisces about societal changes as the nations
transportation needs and tastes changed. Improved transportation fueled
the evolution of the automobile and permanently impacted the rural way
of life. The Old Red Trail shows how farm practices, commerce,
family life, and even houses of worship felt the lasting influence of
the transportation revolution.
North Dakota singer and songwriter Chuck Suchy wrote and performed the
original music for The Old Red Trail. Educational materials
for use in the classroom will be available.
